Websites contribute largely to the online presence of many businesses and brands on the internet.
They are vital for business success on the internet hence, they must be of optimal design to position the brand for success.
The following include reasons to consider a redesign.
1. Not mobile responsive
In modern website design, having a non-responsive site is tantamount to a criminal offense (just joking).
Jokes apart, this is a no-no on the internet today.
A greater percentage of the world population checks the web on mobile, and you will miss out on a number of user opportunities with bad mobile site responsiveness.
This is a no-brainer, if your website is not mobile-friendly, you MUST have a redesign done.
2. Your business strategy has changed
Any change in your business strategy – marketing approach, branding, etc. needs to reflect on your website, as often as those changes occur.
If you introduced a new product, added a new payment feature, or rebranded, these are to be included in your website.
If your site’s goals have changed, it needs a redesign.
For example, if you added an eCommerce feature, you would be required to design its layout to conform with other well-known eCommerce sites.
3. You desire a better user experience
A necessity for websites in the world today is a good user experience, no one goes back to a website with difficulties navigating the contents.
Providing a great user experience begins from the first time they visit your website to the point of conversion or opting for your products/services.
Worthy of note is the User Interface (UI), which is the representation of your business/brand across several devices.
Your website UI should be intuitive, consistent, and aligned with your user’s expectations.
4. To include extra features or functionalities
Your website needs to be easy to use and navigate for your users.
On account of your business growth, you might need to add new features to meet the expectations and needs of your site visitors.
Examples include online sale of digital or physical goods, collation of user emails, intimation of visitors with answers to FAQs, live chat, etc.
To achieve these, and really any feature you want for a website, a redesign would be necessary.
5. Not getting desired traffic
If you’re not seeing much traffic to your site, or you aren’t getting from your desired demographic, a redesign presents the opportunity to identify and fix problems with your current design.
Many sites do not take advantage of the available search engine optimization (SEO) opportunities, a redesign would help address this, creating a version that ranks higher in search increasing site visitors.
6. User feedback or complaints
Feedback is vital to the success of your brand.
If your customers complain about anything on your site, you should address them, especially if not from one user.
Things like having trouble making a purchase, slow website speed, illegible fonts, broken features, etc. necessitate a redesign.
7. Older or outdated design
Innovations in website design are progressive, and best practices change!
Websites often require scheduled weekly, monthly, biannual, and annual maintenance and sometimes a complete overhaul to take advantage of new opportunities including software or technologies.
Users often judge the trustworthiness of websites based on the design and having updated content compared to other sites.
If your website is not at par with the competition, users would consider yours of lesser value.
8. To improve the conversion rate
If you use eCommerce to sell products or services on your site, you would desire your visitors to have a hassle-free experience going through your offerings, adding them to the cart, and making payments.
A good user experience considers the customer’s journey (leads) and keeps them easily moving through your sales funnel to the point of purchase (conversion).
Any difficulties in the channel would reduce the conversion rate of your leads.
9. Increased bounce rate
If your visitors are clicking away immediately after landing on your site or are not returning, this indicates a poor user experience, and hence your bounce rate would go up.
You want them to come around, click through other pages on your site, and keep coming back.
To achieve this, you need to review your content strategy with a focus on quality and relevant content, improve the navigation menu, call to action (CTA) placements, etc.
10. Your competitor’s site is better
Competition is a driver of progress in the business.
If you are in a profitable business, you have competition!
If your competitor’s site is better than yours in bringing in customers, you are probably losing online sales to them.
Competitor analysis is vital for creating a good marketing strategy.
Analyze your competitors’ sites, identify improvements you can imbibe to yours, and redesign appropriately.
